Our series on influence looked at the influence others have on us as well as the influence we can have on those around us. These influences can happen at school, at work, in our neighborhoods, in our families, and in our congregations. Check out the lessons below for more.
How do we let our God influence us, and the how do we spread that influence He has over us? Today, we’re going to look at where we see God’s influence in the Bible and how we let that change our lives. In subsequent lessons, we’re going to see how we take that influence to others. It’s a flow from God to us to others, and then those we touch spread that same godly influence to even more people.
We’ve discussed influence as having the ability affect or be affected by someone else. It’s the ability to alter someone else’s opinions, behaviors, and attitudes. We know that God should be our ultimate influence, but we also know we’re influenced by our friends, by our coworkers and managers, people in the media and other public figures, and we can be influenced by our families.
There are numerous verses about our influence in the Bible, and we often don’t realize the influence we have on others. We know that God should be the greatest influence we have, and that is based on the relationship we develop with Him. We should then be sharing that influence with others. Today, we’ll be talking about the influence of the world — the influence we should be having on others and the influence the world can have on us.
Influences can be good or bad, and we need to make a concerted effort to surround ourselves with good influences while also being a godly influence for others. At work, at school, among our families — our conduct informs the type of impact we’ll have on those around us. This is no different when we’re with our spiritual family.
We’ve been looking closely at the influences we have in our lives, both from and on others. We’ve looked at influence in the workplace and everyday lives, the influences we have and receive at home, and we’ve looked at our spiritual families and the way we impact them. As we wrap up, we’re going to look at the hope we demonstrate in our lives and how that impacts the influence we give and receive.
